GPD, which is short for digital gamepad, has been making the PC laptops oriented to the game and mini laptops before the valve announced the steam platform. However, the company traces its origins at a forgotten time for a long time when some companies, including Archos, Sony and even Nvidia, tried to popularize the idea of a handheld device for Android games. Those may have been ahead of their time before mobile games were finally become truly profitable. GPD could return to its roots, at least for a brief period, and your next GPD-XP is not proven to be inspired by the Nintendo switch.
Hand-gaming devices have existed for decades, but the switch obviously hit a chord with the players. The removable joy controllers of the device and its multiple modes inspired not some flakes and accessories to carry out that idea. While there has been some smart game phones that followed that path, the GPD apparently is taking a slightly different path towards that same extreme.
According to XDA, the GPD-XP shares many similar things to a smartphone, as a 6.81-inch screen with an obvious cutout of drilling holes in the corner. The specifications are, unfortunately, quite disappointing for a game handheld, with a MediaTek Helles G95, 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB storage. The device has a 7,000 mAh and 4G battery for Internet connectivity, not for calls and SMS.
The unique feature of the GPD-XP is its controls. The left side apparently is fixed and contains an analog stick, a d, and three buttons for the traditional Android navigation controls. However, the right side is magnetically united and can be a more traditional Gamepad or a custom designed specifically for MOBA type games. In both cases, physical controls apparently can be assigned to the tactile screen areas, which will be useful for games that do not have control support.
There is still no word when GPD plans to launch the device, but it is most likely to do so in indiege again. It is true that it is an interesting take about the idea of hand for Android games, but it remains to be seen if you will have so much appeal. Apart from modular controllers, there are many smartphones that can do so much and can even make phone calls.
