Apple Airtags threw next to an update to the company’s search company that practically used crowdsourcing to locate devices and lost items. It did not take long when Samsung Sleido obtains a similar feature, and Google was seen planning to do the same for Android in general. That characteristic of crowdsourcing could be around the corner, but the search for Android, my network can even go beyond that and even help ensure lost cars.
The idea of using other devices to locate your lost phone is simple, but its implementation could be complicated, since Apple will confirm it. It involves making sure that a lost device is transmitting a secure ID to any nearby device that can pick up the signal. It also requires nearby devices to be “enrolled” in that same crowdsourcing system.
9TO5GOOGLE’S DIGGING In an internal “Dogfood” test version of the application Search My Android device reveals some of the details of that feature. Notifications will be sent to both the owner of the lost device and the “Sighting User” when a lost phone has been detected, with an option to call it if it is within range. All these are made in a way of respect for privacy, the application promises.
Find my device will also get a co-ownership function that will allow family businesses to locate a lost device for an employee or family member. Sharing a device can be done through a QR code or a link generated by the application. Since the application can not really verify that the recipient is really his boss or a member of the family, he must be careful when sharing that link.
